Eligibility criteria for HNHI requires that applicants:
- Reside in the City of St. Louis
- Are head of household
- Are at least 18 years
- Have a developmental disability and be eligible/registered with the St. Louis Regional Office
- Have one or more children under the age of 18
- Meet homeless criteria*
- Meet income guidelines
HNHI is funded in part by the St. Louis Office for Developmental Disability Resources, and the U S Department of Housing and Urban Development.
There are 2, 3, and 4 bedroom units. All units are large and completely accessible. Each unit includes one full and one ½ bathroom each. In addition, each unit is furnished with appliances. Based on the idea that each applicant is homeless and has little or no assets, all units are equipped with a washer, dryer, stove and refrigerator.
All tenants have at least one support service in place when they become a resident of HNHI. As a supportive housing agent, HNHI works with other community support agencies to provide on-going support to families. Community support agencies may provide one or more the following services:
- Training on daily living skills
- Parenting
- Socialization skills
- Budgeting assistance
On-site staff includes the Executive Director, Tenant Relations Specialist, Maintenance staff and eight (8) front desk support staff that monitor the entrance 24-hours a day.
